On February 16, 2007, at 12:56 pm, the world stood still for one brief second. That is the exact time and date that Olivia Renee entered into the world at hospital in Munster, Indiana. Olivia Renee is the proud daughter of #1 son Tim and his wife Jamie, but more importantly, is the first granddaughter of proud grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lobo. The WOLF’S DEN could not be more proud.
Olivia Renee’s entrance into the world was as quiet and sweet as one could ever hope for. It started at approximately 5:30 that morning with a call from #1 son. Jamie had been experiencing contractions and lower back pain all night and our son wondered what to do. The answer from Mrs. Lobo was a resounding “Get her to the hospital, NOW!!!” Daughter-in-law had different ideas, however. She had a doctor’s appointment at 9:30 that morning and she really wasn’t worried about the contractions or the pressure. I guess it must have hit home at her doctors appointment when the sawbones told her she was 8 cm dilated and needed to go to the hospital immediately.
Believing we had enough time, Mrs. Lobo and I loaded up the wagon and headed north. We left our beloved warm Kentucky cave for the cold, frozen tundra of northern Indiana. The further north we went the colder the temperature became and the more snow appeared on the ground(note to self: have Al Gore explain that global warming thing again!!!). We figured since it was our DiL's(Daughter-in-Law) first baby, she would be in labor for a good stretch of time. Baby Olivia, however, had other ideas. Momma was in hard labor for only an hour. Papa just barely made it to the hospital from work. Grandma and grandpa still had 4 hours of driving time to go when baby Olivia entered the world.
The ease and quickness of her birth did have a serious consequence. Momma's water bag never broke until the doctor broke it during the delivery. Thus baby Olivia swallowed some amniotic fluid while being born. The very same thing that protected her and cushioned her for 9 months became her enemy. She was taken from her mother's arms and placed in the cold, sterile world of neo-natal care. There she remained for 8 days while the fluid was being removed from her lungs and she was being protected against infection.
So there it was. The only way this old dog could touch his granddaughter was through the holes in the side of the incubator. I was able to tickle her feet and hold her tiny hand. I marveled at the strength of her grip and truly believed she was and still is the most beautiful baby in the universe.
I've been and done many things in my life. I have been in situations where I believed that only the hand of God saved me, though I never saw His hand at work. Not until that fateful day when I saw baby Olivia in her incubator. I truly believe I saw the hand of God holding her. He was holding her and whispering in her ear "I've got you, you're mine, I'm going to take care of you and I have some wonderful plans for you!"
So welcome baby Olivia Renee!!! The universe is yours and both grandma and grandpa will be watching and recording how God's plan for you unfolds....
P.S. Baby Olivia would like the good folks at Townhall to know that while she was waiting in the hospital to go home to mommy and daddy, she created her own website. You can view her pictures at Babysites.com/The Mosher family because her grandpaw aint smart enough to be able to post pics here on his blog!!!!
